Kevin Dart

Thanks to my friend Amanda's sweet new blog, The Peony Project, I found some new art for my room. This new Kevin Dart print just arrived in the mail.

Oh San Francisco, it's been 6 years together and we're still going strong!

Sam's Myth

Most movie posters today are mostly sad, poorly photoshopped blownup photos. Not these. I came up on this artist's awesome work. Sam Smyth design's movie posters are ones you actually wish you owned. He doesn't just design movie posters though, here's a sample of what he does but there's alot more to see on his blog.

And how about these rad stamps!

Black Swan

Right now I can't post about anything related to my ongoing cancer battle, my recent stint in the hospital was excruciating and the thought that this is only the beginning and I have long road ahead of hospital stays and chemo is overwhelmingly terrifying.
But I will post about this. I just saw Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan and it was beautiful. Dark, uncomfortable, visually enthralling, creepy and thrilling to watch Natalie Portman's performance and her psychological unravel as the movie progresses. A must see! Definitely one of this year's best movies.
But also...how cool are these posters? Haven't been able to find out who the designer is but I could definitely see the last one on my wall.

Also...go see it!

Less is More

A long time ago rock posters often mirrored fantasy book covers, with raging flames, skeletons and mythic looking creatures. Rock posters as of late have been shedding all the excess and going for a more minimalist look, obeying to a the trend of less is more. Someone who clearly embodies that trend is graphic design artist, Jason Munn. Originally from Wisconsin, now living the East Bay since 2002, Munn is inspired by indie bands with more artistic qualities to create his posters.
All his posters are unique amongst themselves and speak to the individuality of each band or musician they're for. Modernist and with a shout out to designs from the '40's and '50's his posters speak volumes without having to shout. Munn's design firm The Small Stakes, just released a poster book that would I would love to have on my coffee table...if I had one. You can check out more here.

Lost Episodes

The end is coming and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. But we can celebrate six years of obsession for a little tv show about some unfortunate, random, folk stranded on a bizarre island. I found some very cool Lost art someone has been making. Posters about seminal episodes of each season. Simple and unique. Can't decide which one I want.

There's more here.

It's Personal

I like to think that I'm pretty good at keeping in touch with friends who have moved away. After 6 years in this city I have accrued friends all over the globe. If only there was enough money to pay y'all a visit.
Sometimes though, laziness, procrastination and random life events get in the way of staying close with those who are a mere miles away. On what was otherwise a miserable weekend, (where I gained a new appreciation for jello) I got back in touch with an old friend who is an amazing illustrator. Her work has been featured in several magazines like the Times and Mother Jones.
These are my favorites from her website devondoss.net This lady I have known for years and have always been in awe of her talent and imagination. I'm happy to say I have one of her creations forever tattooed on my forearm. And I'm ready for the next one..but before then a dinner date. There's alot of catching up to do.

Know Where You Are

I found this on the Mission Mission blog, a San Francisco Terror Map by David Enos. Apparently from what I can figure out I live in the Creature Cantina...

Appealing Design

When down and out and faced with only $10 or so dollars to buy a bottle of wine...how do you choose?
Well seeing as most in that price range are similar in quality what better way to experiment than based on the design of the label. Paying no heed to whether it's cabernet or pinot or the age or it's origin, you can come across some pleasant surprises.
One of my roommates surprised me one day with this bottle. I honestly can't remember if it was superior wine or not, I remember it not being bad. I went and bought another bottle of the same kind later.
But could you resist such a whimsical yet simple design?

Vintage is Lost

After finding the previous piece one thing lead to another and I came across several "vintage" Dharma Initiative ads. Pretty fucking cool.

Lost Design

In trying to quench my Lost thirst, (it's only been 2 months since the 5th season finale and I still have to make it all the way to next year for next season!) I stumbled upon this ridiculously awesome awesome poster from british designer, Olly Moss.
16 top artists were commissioned to create work celebrating the series' most unforgettable, standout moments. There is limited number of each work and they will not be reprinted (this one is already sold out). I haven't come across the others but will be on the look out. In true Lost fashion the others are mysteriously hidden and will be revealed through time.
